Tercera Línea de Transmisión Eléctrica registra 85% de avance

El ministro de Economía y Finanzas, Dulcidio De La Guardia, informó que la Tercera Línea de Transmisión eléctrica lleva un 85% de avance. La obra, una vez que esté concluida, garantizará de forma confiable y segura el suministro de energía que estará demandando el crecimiento demográfico del país en el futuro inmediato. De la Guardia, también presidente de la junta directiva de la Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica (ETESA), explicó que el proyecto que adelanta esta empresa del Estado permitirá transportar 800MW de electricidad a los centros de consumo, en particular en las ciudades más importantes.

US LNG for China arrives via Panama Canal

The first shipment of liquefied natural gas from the lower 48 U.S. states to China arrived this week, thanks to the recently expanded Panama Canal’s easing access to the robust Asian market for U.S. gas exporters. U.S. LNG, which is usually transported on large ships that can’t fit in the older Panama Canal locks, hasn’t been able to compete in Asia. The new locks, which opened in June and can accommodate larger ships, mark a significant moment for U.S. exporters. “The expansion has significant implications for LNG trade, reducing travel time and transportation costs for LNG shipments from the U.S. Gulf Coast to key markets in Asia and providing additional access to previously regionalized LNG markets,” the U.S. Energy Information Administration said.

New route brings cargo to Philly

With the long-awaited $5.4 billion Panama Canal expansion completed and allowing bigger ships to carry more cargo through the waterway, some of those larger vessels are now coming to the Port of Philadelphia. Mediterranean Shipping Co. began a new freight route Aug. 3, hauling fruit and “dry” cargoes such as tires, wood products, wine, sugar, and cocoa beans from Chile and Peru through the canal’s new traffic lane, with a stop in Freeport, Bahamas, and then in Philadelphia.

Barbados seeking to strengthen

Nine Barbadian manufacturing and services companies will be leaving Barbados for Panama on Sunday to participate in a series of pre-arranged business to business meetings set as part of a five-day political/commercial mission. Led by Barbados’ Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business, Donville Inniss, the mission is intended to enhance policy dialogue and the exchange of business information, while strengthening the network of business support organizations, promoting trade, and exploring investment opportunities which could yield economic gains for both territories.
