Panama has the world’s fifth-highest wireless penetration, according to a Latinvex analysis of data from the International Telecommunications Union for 233 countries.
Panama has a penetration rate of 189 percent. Only four other countries worldwide have higher rates: Macao, Antigua & Barbuda, Saudi Arabia and Montenegro.
Meanwhile, Cuba ranks among the top laggards in the world, with a penetration rate of only 8.9 percent. That’s the third-lowest worldwide. Only Myanmar and North Korea have lower rates.
Brazil remains the top wireless market by subscribers: 202.9 million. That also makes it the sixth-largest wireless market in the world. Mexico, with 91.4 million, ranks as the second wireless market in Latin America and ninth worldwide, according to another Latinvex analysis of ITU data.
