The International Affairs Division of the US Chamber of Commerce Letter to US Citizens Abroad Regarding the Voting Process in the Upcoming Presidential Elections

Monday, September 5, 2016 - 09:01

Dear All:

As we enter the final stages of the election season, we wanted to help ensure your members are aware of the voting tools provided by FVAP.

An estimated 2.6 million voting-eligible American citizens live and work outside the United States. In the last general election in 2014, only four percent of these Americans exercised their right to vote. To help you and your members vote in the November 8th General Election the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) is providing absentee voting information for your use and distribution.

FVAP is a nonpartisan component within the Department of Defense that works to ensure members of the military, their family members, and overseas citizens are aware of their right to vote and have the tools and resources to successfully do so - from anywhere in the world.

Your organizations' members can turn to FVAP for help with the absentee voting process while working and living overseas.  Visitors to FVAP.gov can find all the information they need to register to vote, request a ballot, learn their State's deadlines and requirements, and even check the status of their ballot after voting.

In addition, FVAP has created an absentee voting information toolkit that your organizations can download and distribute to their eligible members. You are welcome to customize and publish this content on digital channels like websites, blogs, social media and email.

The toolkit can be downloaded at: https://www.fvap.gov/uploads/FVAP/Outreach-Materials/FVAP-OCMediaToolkitInstructions_20160603.pdf.

Please contact FVAP directly at [email protected] or 1-800-438-VOTE if you are interested in leveraging these resources or have any questions about the upcoming election and how vote absentee.  Any individual organizations are also encouraged to contact FVAP directly if they need any assistance or direct access to these resources.

Sincerely,

Rob
