AmCham Panama Announces the 2012 Board of Directors

Panama City, Panama—November 30, 2011 --- The American Chamber of Commerce and Industry is pleased to announce the results of the 2012 Board of Directors election. To ensure consistency within the management structure, half of the Board is elected for a two year term in alternating years. The newly elected Board members will take office January, 2012.

"On behalf of AmCham Panama, I congratulate the newly elected 2012 AmCham Panama Board of Directors. I would also like to thank all the candidates who ran for the Board. The strength of this year’s candidate slate is an illustration of the quality of our membership,” said Juan Carlos Arias, President of AmCham Panama.

"I would also like to thank 2011 Board members who are completing their term on the Board,” continued Arias. “These Board members include Board Secretary Sandra Miro and Board Director Brenda McCullough. The commitment of their time and talent to AmCham Panama is much appreciated, and we look forward to their continued participation in the Chamber.”

The six elected Board of Directors for 2012 are:

Maria Eugenia Fonseca, Executive Director, DBM Panama, S.A.

Gerald Gomez, General Manager, Procter & Gamble

Marcelo Gorrini, General Manager, Citibank, N.A.

David Carius, Region Manager of Global Construction & Infrastructure, Caterpillar

Eyda Varela de Chinchilla, General Manager of Esso Standard Oil Panama 

Rene Van Hoorde, General Manager, GBM of Panama

AmCham Board of Directors also elected Luis Laguerre of KPMG as President for 2012. Mr. Laguerre has more than 20 years of experience as a tax specialist serving local and multinational clients in the financial, telecommunications, and manufacturing industries.  He serves on AmCham’s Legislation and Taxation Committee and has organized the AmCham tax forums in both 2009 and 2010.  Mr. Laguerre served as Board Treasurer for AmCham in 2011.

The board positions of Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer for AmCham Panama will be filled at the next Board of Directors meeting held in December.
