Last year, at the AACCLA meeting in Washington DC, AmCham Panama proposed organizing an AMCHAM / AACCLA DAY, throughout the region that encompasses 24 AmChams in Latin America and the Caribbean, all members of the US Chamber of Commerce.  The concept is that members of all 24 AmChams select one day this year to do volunteer work on the same day, in their respective countries.  This idea was received with great enthusiasm, and approved overwhelmingly.  The idea was to do a project that would impact the region, and at the same time bring  the term AACCLA (Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America & the Caribbean) to the local membership level.

On Monday, January 30th, AmCham had its first meeting to organize AMCHAM / AACCLA DAY in Panama.  Over 30 representatives of our members attended and after a briefing of the Vision and Mission of AmCham and AACCLA, the floor was open for an enthusiastic discussion, after which it was agreed to concentrate on the area of San Miguelito, where AmCham has been present over 6 years with its program of developing Principals and MEDUCA regional leaders.

Carson Dolan of the US Embassy and Lorraine Borganovo of GLASSING INTERNATIONAL were honored guests.

The member companies represented at this first meeting were:

4 Ever Magic, Administración Canal de Panamá, Alfaro, Ferrer & Ramirez, AIESEC, American Airlines, Arias, Fábrega & Fábrega, Baxter de Panamá, Cedeño & Mendez, Citibank, N.A., Consorcio Industrial De Las Américas, S.A. (COINLA), De Levante & Asociados, Empresas Bern, Focus Publications Int, S.A., Siuma Corporate Solutions, S.A., Icaza, González-Ruiz & Alemán, KPMG, MIT, Panama Canal Railway, Regency Real Estate Developers, Tropical Services, Unity Ducruet, ABB.

The result of this meeting will be presented at the next AACCLA meeting this week in Miami, where the 24 AmChams will select one date that the AMCHAM / AACCLA DAY of Volunteer work will be selected.
